Otherworld Nights

Otherworld Nights is the first of three anthologies that are set in Kelley Armstrong’s, Women of the Otherworld series! This is the first of a three part series, each book containing novellas that feature some of her readers favourite characters.  The rise of the novella is an interesting one, in some cases its a cash in, short tale for those hooked on characters they love, for others its an integral serial, a HBO of the book world. As a newbie to the world of Kelley Armstrong i wasn’t invested in the characters so there were no rose tinted fan glasses
In this particular edition, we get a brand new novella, Vanishing Act. Vanishing Act is set after the series finale, 13. I have yet to read Vanishing Act, as I have been holding off reading the final book. You know when you love a series so much, and you don’t want it to end? that’s why I’ve been putting 13 off, but no more! With the arrival of those awesome anthologies I can safely wrap up the series and still get my doses of the Otherworld.
In this anthology we get eight novellas. Demonology, Twilight, Stalked, Chivalrous, Lucifer’s Daughter, Hidden, From Russia, With Love and Vanishing Act.
To put them in their chronology:
Demonology Should be read after Bitten, this is voiced by Talia.
Twilight fits in after the 7th book, No Humans Involved and is told by Cassie. Twilight has already been released in a previous anthology : Many Bloody Returns edited by Charlaine Harris.
Stalked read after Twilight and is told by Clay.
Chivalrous should be read after Personal Demon.
Lucifer’s Daughter told by Hope should be read after Frostbitten, book 10.
Hidden is a Clay and Elena story.
From Russia, With Love should be read after 13 and features Elena.
Vanishing Act
It may not be fair for me to review this, from everything i have seen this author has a very large very clear fan base, and i have not read her work before. But it is part of my year to step outside my reading genre.
Im not going to lie, the subject of the stories… not my cup of tea. Its all felt a little mundane (maybe too much TV on my side) But i think that is as much because although these feel like they could be read as stand alone, they probably work so much better for people who know and love the characters.
That said Kelley Armstrong is clearly a very clever inventive writer able to weave careful and intricate plot twists! Armstrong’s writing is im sure addictive to those who read this genre, it is both creative and thrilling.  I doubt i will explore her world again, but for those fans or paranormal romance, this is well worth the cover price.
